La Cocina's Food and Entrepreneurship Conference 2012

La Cocina is a is a business incubator designed to reduce the obstacles that often prevent entrepreneurs from creating successful and sustainable small businesses.  By providing shared resources and an array of industry-specific services, business incubators ensure small businesses can succeed. La Cocina follows this model by providing commercial kitchen space and technical assistance focusing on low-income women and immigrant entrepreneurs who are launching, growing and formalizing food businesses.ting diversity and building community spaces.  La Cocina is hosting its annual conference in San Francisco, CA. This year's conference will be  promoting diversity and building community spaces through the shared experience of food; creating jobs and developing our economy in a sustainable, sound manner.  It will emphasize supporting women and immigrant-run and owned businesses, and the  leveraging of  technology to do all of the above. American Farmland Trust is a national organization dedicated to saving America’s farm and ranch land, promoting healthy farming practices, and supporting farms and farmers. Since its founding in 1980 by a group of farmers and citizens concerned about the rapid loss of farmland to development, it has helped save millions of acres of farmland from development and led the way for establishing sound environmental practices. Linking farmers, conservationists, and policy-makers, it is focused on ensuring the availability of fresh food, a healthy environment and strong local economies across the nation. American Farmland Trust has offices serving California, New York, Connecticut, the Pacific Northwest, New England, the Mid-Atlantic, and all other states.

The Center for Agriculture in the Environment (CAE) was jointly created by American Farmland Trust and Northern Illinois University in 1991 to help protect America's agricultural lands and to encourage healthy farming practices. CAE os a  public policy research center with roots in both the private, nonprofit world and the academic community. CAE works closely with the academic, environmental and agricultural communities to raise awareness of issues by providing research and strong academic arguments for wise public policy. In addition to its research, CAE's oversees and provides support for its affiliated centers and organizes workshops and symposia.
